In 1975, Steven Sasson, an electrical engineer at Kodak, burst into his boss's office, clutching a bulky metal contraption. Sasson excitedly explained that he had successfully used a "charged coupled device" to digitally capture an image and record it onto tape. In layman's terms, he had just invented the world's first digital camera.
