FAIR is an acronym that stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable, and the FAIR principles refer to the ability to find and reuse data across the enterprise, both by humans and computers. Initially proposed by a group of scientists in 2016, "FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship," it has since seen widespread adoption globally across industries. Within the life sciences industry, a non-profit organization, Pistoia Alliance, emerged to facilitate collaboration on FAIR "...to lower barriers to innovation in life science and healthcare R&D through pre-competitive collaboration."
