When I was born ten weeks early weighing 2 lbs 9 oz, the doctors told my mother that I’d never finish high school, let alone take care of myself. A few decades and a Doctorate degree later, I can confidently say that they were wrong.
Mistakes like this can lead to fun anecdotes, but all too often misconceptions about those who are different create harmful outcomes. Not just for the person who is neurodivergent or disabled - but for everyone.
Neurodiversity isn’t just a DEI buzzword; it is a competitive advantage. Companies miss out on high-performing employees and innovative solutions when their hiring practices are not inclusive.
That’s why I’m a strong advocate for scalable, systemic, organizational initiatives that drive diversity and inclusion. As a member of the invisible disability, Deaf, Neurodivergent, and LGBTQ+ communities, I’m passionate about leveraging my lived experiences to drive this mission forward.
As a leader in inclusion & accessibility, I have been building bridges between mainstream communities and underrepresented humans for over 20 years. My work has led to initiatives that broaden the reach of accessible education and employment practices in the DC area and beyond.
Past accomplishments include:
- Training teams of recruiters on strategies for making hiring practices more inclusive of neurodivergent job seekers
- Increasing accessibility features within children's programming to ensure that all youth can engage, learn, and enjoy the content, leading to a 32% increase in revenue growth
- Leveraging needs-based evidence to organize and pilot inclusive after-school clubs that increased 64% of club's participation within educational settings
- Developing curriculum that broadens the reach of accessible education within STEM & the sciences in a brand new position serving underrepresented communities
- Transforming baseline data into innovative & accessible math and science educational content, leading to an average 60% increase on state assessments
In my efforts to constantly push boundaries, innovate, and step toward problems, I leverage my personal experiences and professional expertise infusing inclusive practices to meet diverse client needs. What drives me is my profound desire to make a positive impact on those I lead and the world around me.
Accessibility makes the invisible visible by bringing to light ways that make life easier for EVERYONE, not just people with disabilities.
