Darren joined Bain Capital in 2016. He works across the portfolio and helps the investment team focus in areas of marketing, advertising, product, e-commerce, digital, media, and CRM/data. A core belief of Darren's is that while technology is important, people and process make or break a business.
...Prior to joining Bain Capital, he was the VP of Product for Content Services at Mozilla, where he was responsible for diversifying revenue and innovation in Mozilla's global content and personalization products and services, which reach some 500 million users each month across 110+ countries.
Previously, Darren led digital media for MDC Partners' Media Group and created the MDC Partners/kbs+ corporate venture fund, focused on advertising and marketing technologies. Darren was also co-founder and President of Varick Media, the first programmatic trading desk on Madison Avenue.
Prior to joining the agency world in 2007, Darren spent 12 years as a marketing technology entrepreneur, raising over $40 million for his own ventures with successful exits from top venture capitalists, including Intel Capital and NBC Universal.
Darren actively invests in innovative content, marketing and advertising businesses, including Nuzzel (acquired by Scroll), Crowdtwist (acquired by Oracle), PlaceIQ, SeedCX, msg.ai, StageTEN and Adaptly (acquired by Accenture).
Over the years, Darren has been named a Top 25 Marketing Innovator and Thought Leader by iMedia, made the Business Insider's Silicon Alley 100 list, and named a Media All Star by Media Post. He also has also held membership if the IAB and 4A's Digital Innovations Committee.
In his spare time, Darren runs Silicon Alley Sports, a not-for-profit dedicated to raising money for various charities through golf and tennis events aimed at technology entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in New York City. When not in the office or traveling for business, he can be found in Wellesley, MA with his wife and two children or skiing on the slopes of Southern Vermont #skitheeast
