In 2015, I found my passion for marketing…
I was running my own landscaping business, The College Yard Guys, and our mission was to “pay for our college tuition, one yard at a time”.
News flash! We didn’t get business because we were the best landscapers in the US. We had a mission, stuck to it, and customers bought into that mission. They didn’t want to pay corporate professionals when they could help a few college guys pay for their education. Some clients even thought we were just as good as the pros (humble brag).
To market something successfully you need to believe in the mission and you need to market the why, not the what. I learned a lot while running a landscaping business and I'm excited to continue to learn.
Now, after a few hundred yards of mulch and thousands of flowers planted, I had found myself at a warehouse software company called Lucas Systems. Lucas Systems is a company with a mission and vision ingrained into everything we do. That mission is to improve the lives of workers in the warehouse. This is our why and this is why people partner with Lucas.
In 2015, I found my passion for marketing because I was passionate about communicating and delivering a service I believed in and felt brought tremendous value to others. Marketing gives me the ability to creatively communicate what I'm passionate about while helping deliver solutions that make the lives of others easier and better. It's exciting, its fun and it doesn't feel like “work”.
Now, I've taken another step in my career. After hundreds of thousands of hours spent in the marketing field, I've joined a team striving to help marketing agency owners build more productive, profitable and healthy teams by streamlining their operations in ClickUp.
