Building an LGBTQI+ Inclusive Workplace: Short-term and Long-term Strategies

Katherine Reilly was born in Chicago Illinois and has dedicated herself to the field of education and specifically that of English Literature. As an educator, she works at a private school in Athens Greece, teaching English to learners of all ages and levels, while also working as an oral examiner for the majority of universities which certify candidates in the use of the English Language. In the role of Academic Teacher Trainer, Katherine delivers lectures to audiences of both graduates and experienced educators in domestic as well as international English language teaching conferences. Her passion is inspiring critical thinking through active learning strategies and stimulating young learners’ potential in writing and speaking.

She has authored a total of forty-three books, six of which are personal publications, thirty-one for the ELT learning field and a further six concerning ICT learning. As an author, she has also collaborated with publishers in the development of teaching material and has offered her voice in recordings for the material’s relevant audio segments. Her articles on English Language Teaching can be found each month in the printed magazine ELT NEWS, the leading magazine for Foreign Language teachers and schools in Greece.

In the capacity of LGBTQI+ Business Consultant, Katherine has trained the personnel of public as well as private workspaces, promoting a diverse workforce. She is also a contributor to humanitarian aid as a teacher for impoverished children, as regards the Greek and English language. During her time as vice principal of the Refugee School of Athens, she dedicated her efforts to reorganizing it and teaching there for a total of two years. In the capacity of Radio Producer, she voices the cause of the LGBTQI community by educating and informing her audience in all relevant matters. Finally, as a TEDx and public speaker, she has used her experience to train, motivate, and assist students in reaching their true potential as speakers.

Katherine has collaborated with the Greek National Opera as a Production Consultant and has scripted theatrical adaptations of children's books, as well as scripts for short films and videos. In her free time, she collaborates with a modelling agency as a part-time model for concept photography and is a member of the HUMAN CAST organization which promotes the artistic endeavors of marginalized individuals. As an ambassador of WORLDPLACES, an initiative supported in Greece by the Generation Red 2.0 organization, she has strived to promote the rights of all women in today’s workplace.
