I consider myself a builder. I’ve spent my career building brands and businesses, launching start-ups and taking new technology to market. I have also come to learn that it’s connection and community that have the greatest impact, beyond a focus on products and the bottom line.
In retrospect, my propensity to create and build goes back to my youth – creating art, writing stories, even building tools in woodshop. Today, my mission is balanced between building great business and building the next generation of leaders and creators.
My professional experience spans more than three decades, across marketing disciplines – ranging from customer marketing, to branding, product marketing, public relations, and to segment and field marketing – with a deep background in strategic communications, guiding every business and customer outcome I’ve led. I started my career in PR in the music instrument industry, forayed into marketing for consumer products, pivoted to the start-up and pre-IPO world, and then went on to lay down roots in the developer community and enterprise software industry.
I’ve worked with some of the best companies and communities in the world, where people are making a big impact across many industries – including Citrix, GitHub, and now VMware. To make a difference in our customers’ business, and in our own business there are three core principles I am focused on: communication, human potential, and community. Communication being the central nervous system that connects these tenets and is key in creating differentiated value to the business.
