I’m a UK qualified lawyer with over 30 years experience, spanning 10 years at the Bar as a trial lawyer and 20+ years as a solicitor operating exclusively in the field of information law, privacy, data protection and cyber security as a solicitor and management consultant.
For 5+ years I was the global cyber security and data protection legal services leader in a Big 4 multi-disciplinary practice.
Along the way, I’ve led three legal practices to recognition as leaders in the main legal directories, as well as being personally ranked by the directories as one of the UK’s leading lawyers these areas since 2010.
Other aspects of my experience include: Co-Founder and NED of The Cyber Security Challenge UK, part of HMG’s National Cyber Security Strategy; Honourary President of The National Association of Data Protection Officers; a member of the EDPB’s expert pool for data protection technology and legal matters; advisor to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office; author/ co-author of 9 text books; and a past winner of the Financial Times Legal Innovator of The Year award.
My practice includes counselling businesses on the design, build and operation of data processing and security systems; advising on cyber security incident response strategy and law; representing clients in regulatory investigations and litigation arising from privacy and security breaches; and providing general legal advice on any issues in these areas, such as direct marketing, AdTech, subject rights, international data transfers and breach reporting.
As well as my professional qualifications as a Barrister and Solicitor, I have a Masters Degree in Computer and Communications law and I am currently reading for my MSc in Cyber Security.
