Combining my two decades of visual media production experience with a Ph.D. in Communication, I specialize in helping any organization (non-profits, corporations, newsrooms and film/TV productions) understand its social impact and strategize thoughtful communication through an equity and accessibility lens. I offer organizational strategic planning and project management as well as workshops + trainings on DEI, implicit bias, team dynamics, equity-focused public/audience communication practices.
As a visual storyteller, my images have been published in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, ESPN, Allure, The Atlantic, ProPublica, People, and many more. I have been a photo editor for Newsweek, CNN, and NY Times. Though I photograph a multitude of subjects, my personal work reframes visual representations of borders/immigration, gender, race, sexuality, and any historically marginalized communities.
As an educator, I have created and led award-winning college news media while teaching critical media production to emerging journalists and photographers at R1 universities, art schools, community colleges, and liberal arts colleges.
My photography, films, research and writing have been awarded by: Pulitzer Center; Reynolds Journalism Institute; World Press Photo; Knight Foundation; Folio Awards; Nieman Foundation at Harvard University; LA Center of Photography; and the Southern California Journalism Awards, among many others.
