Most people would experience their midlife crisis, well, midlife. They would sit behind a desk for near decades then feel a yearning to explore their more creative side of life. Cue the dramatic career path change from accountant to the next contestant on MasterChef! Not me. I did things a little differently. I started out binge watching MasterChef Australia believing I would be living the life missing that olโ€™ midlife crisis by becoming a chef straight away. But jokes on me! My passion for the kitchen did not extend as far as being in that heated pressured environment for hours on end. Instead, I chose to head out to look for a desk job so that I may enjoy my kitchen at my own relaxed pace. It started off with me selling myself on Gumtree and being found for my first receptionist job at Roux Airconditioning where my skills were developed and I grew into the position as Service Manager where I successfully managed the multiple service and repair teams, keeping homes and offices of Greater Durban cool. Feeling up for a bigger challenge, I then became Project Lead Administrator for the AB-In Bev team at Bothma Branding Solutions. Here I am involved in AB-In Bevโ€™s national project to upgrade their taverns. This annually run multi-million-rand project has allowed for me to grasp my aptitude of organisation and planning and unleashed my inner nerd as I am able to work daily on Excel. I dissect, cost, develop and track during the project from inception through to its completion and pride myself on my accurate data keeping. So now that I have my desk job, I can focus on using my creativity in my own time baking cakes and decorating cookies.
